Last week, I had the pleasure to train with Cincinnati Weightlifting. It is a classy facility located just off of the 747 in Cinci, not far from Tri-county. About 4 platforms and a good stock of weights.
Not to mention the lifters are all well educated, ranging from physicists to Chemists and Computer scientists. Interesting, Chris, the coach has a physica background, and all his lifters have good technique--once more proving that good technique is a matter of properly applying the principles of physics.
I was also interested to see some of the lifters applying of Chinese Abdominal workout techniques featured on Coach Ivan Rojas's blog www.ristosports.com/blog . If you haven't seen it, in a nutshell, the Chinese lifters would lay between two benches and stack plates on their midsection, holding the position for about 30 seconds. --Disclaimer:Do not try at home. This is not something for novices to try, always perform with a spotter, don't put the weights on your abs by yourself, do not do to failure or max out--
Anyhow, I was game for about 35Kgs at 30 seconds. I wanted to put on more weight, but I was reminded that it wasn't part of my workout and showing-off is the best way to get injured.
I'm really happy to see weightlifting crop-up in Cincinnati. There are great prospects among the lifters, most being in their 20'-30's as well as master lifters.
Other tid bit of information, one of the lifters in an opera singer. She indicated that weighltifting with the Cincinnati team actually improved her voice. Whereby, lifting makes your back and abs stronger, hence improving the singer's use of there lungs.
Anyhow, I hope to see the team continue to grow. For more info, go to http://www.cincinnatiweightlifting.com/
