If you had to choose over any spare time activity or sport, why weightlifting? Why do I even want to promote it?
The answer:
It's the greatest hidden secret known to the sporting world. For those with a short attentio span (thanks to the blinking internet ads), I'll hit the bullet points:
1. It will make you POWERFUL - ie explosive, fast & strong
2. It will make you flexible
3. Yes, you will look good, 'cause it's a full body work out; most weightlifters look fit, not huge (that's a stereotype)
4. It's the most efficient way to build bone density
5. Its' incredibly easy to enter a local meet, and it has a clear easy method for qualifying for national meets
6. It is objective- you lift more, you win
7. It will make you build lean muscle, which increases your metabolism, which means you can Eat more without gaining weight
8. It will stimulate your kinestetic intelligence because it's highly technical
9. You will become better at all other sports (see 1-2,4, 7-8)
10. Where else can you train with people like Coach Ivan Rojas?
11. All you need is a bar an bumper plates, indoor or outdoor activity, 24/7, 365 days a year
12. It will make everything else seem easier -- "I can clean and jerk double bodywieght, doing ____ should therefore be a piece of cake!"
13. focus like a zen master
14. Has catchy names for the lifts such as "snatch" and "clean and jerk"
I think weightlifting is just a very misunderstood sport. C'mon, Is there anything worse than feeling alienated and misunderstood? (if a sport could feel that way, ha haha). Many people seem to wrongly identify weightlifting with slow, boring , movements. Whereas, a flawless lift is fast and nimble; it is beautiful.
More effective than describing it here is to show some video:
So, please don't do yourself a misservice, go look-up a gym, watch some Olympic lifting youtibe videos, and start learning technique. Anyone can do it. At Risto Sports, we've trained lifters from 7 years old to 57 years old.
