Protein Powder Power! Power Bar Product Review

I just got a crate of Power Bar ProteinPlus Protein Powder and will review it over the next week. This event actually times perfectly with my training cycle --I'm doing a build-up phase, tons of squats, and plan on doing double sessions during my week off.

I know what you're thinking-- "doesn't Power Bar only make bars?" Nope, they have really evolved their product line since their classic bars many of us enjoyed during the 90's.

Anyhow, as many of you know, I am EXTREMELY picky when it comes to food and supplements. Yes, you might even say anal. As any athlete knows, the key to progress is recovery from workouts, and recovery requires treating your body like a Ferrari--putting only the best stuff possible in it.

So, before ingesting any of this protein powder, lets take a look at the label...
In one scoop you get:
130 calories
20g of protein
2g of fat
7g of carbs, 5 from sugar
My 2 cents: this is comparable with most of the other powders I use such as Gaspari or Labrada plus or minus 10 calories.

Sweeteners: fructose and sucralose
My 2 cents: this passes, no aspartame, fructose doesn't spike your blood sugar like high fructose corn syrup or glucose. Sustained energy.

Fats: high oleic safflower oil -- passes on my book
US GDP: Finally, it is made in the USA (though I think most powders are...for example, EAS is made in Canada).

Protein blend as listed in order on packaging: Soy, whey, and caseinate--- you get quick abosrbing whey, medium absobing soy, and slow absorbing casein as advertised on the package. You, typically, do not see soy on other brand blends;however, it has been a long standing staple of lifters. Pass.

Based on the above, I am a willing guinea pig ...Next, I will report on the taste and mixing quality, then results. Looks like Power Bar is affiliated with Nestle, so I'm counting on the Chocalte flavor to be above average!!!
