The other day I was at the Kittery outlets. Though I have a lot of Risto compression pants and singlets, I saw these neat looking Nike stretch pants that were way marked down. There's nothing wrong with competitive market intelligence, right?
Seriously, they were some sort of cotton blend with cute little material ridges going down the center and sides (puckered material sewn together to make the ridge). I got a size small. True to weightlifter physique, they were loose on the waist tight on my quads, and, surprisingly, tight on my calves. I find this amusing as finding pants that fit is a life long tribulation for weightlifters. Anyhow, they fit fairly well aside from it being loose on the waist, they were much looser than my compression pants.
After I did my first few sets, I noticed my pants were de-ridging. By the time I got to squats, they were basically flattened out, making the coolness of my pants just a memory of a few hours ago. At one point, I was wondering if my legs would rip out of the pants like the Hulk.
Then I recalled on the tag, it did mention these were running pants. Hmmm, does this mean runners never go into a full squat or bend their legs past a 90 degree angle.
I chronicle this experience as I know many of weightlifters have endured this-- this lack of proper equipment on the regular consumer market. Once more, my quest to bring products for weightlifters to the market is verified.
Ok, I'm being a little melodramatic, but you get the point, right?
